FC Barcelona has begun negotiations with its Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim and his representatives regarding an improvement to his contract, according to transfer news specialist journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Last June, Barcelona decided to activate the purchase clause for Hamza Abdelkarim from Al Ahly following a loan period, announcing his signing until the summer of 2029.

However, after the 18-year-old's outstanding performance with Barcelona's first team during the pre-season for the new campaign, the club moved to secure Abdelkarim's future.

Romano clarified that Barcelona has started negotiations with the player and his representatives to amend his contract and raise the release clause, currently set at 15 million euros.

He added that a final agreement has not yet been reached, but Barcelona is seeking to secure the future of the Egyptian international.

A few days ago, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, a specialist in transfer market news, reported that Barcelona's management is considering raising the release clause in Hamza's contract to 150 million euros.

Hamza Abdelkarim declined his personal break after participating with the Egyptian national team in the World Cup and joined the first team's pre-season preparations alongside manager Hansi Flick.

Hamza Abdelkarim played in five preparatory matches and scored four goals, making him the team's top scorer.

Hamza scored a brace against Birmingham City, a goal against Basel, and a goal against his former club, Al Ahly.

Barcelona is preparing for the start of the new season and a match against Elche on Sunday in the second round of the Spanish league.

The team will play the postponed first round match against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, August 27, at Camp Nou.
