Egyptian weightlifting team member Rofida Fathy secured gold and silver medals at the ongoing "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games, which continue until September 3 with the participation of 3,803 athletes from 26 countries.
Rofida Fathy won the gold medal in the clean and jerk event in the 69 kg category by lifting 129 kg, and also claimed the silver medal in the snatch by lifting 101 kg.

Egypt's total medal count at the Mediterranean Games has now reached 42, placing the country in contention with leading nations and maintaining its position atop Arab countries with 14 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals.
The Egyptian delegation is competing in 23 sports at the Mediterranean Games: archery, athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoe and kayak, equestrianism, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, fin swimming, and amateur sliding.
Egypt ranks sixth among countries with the most medals in the history of the Mediterranean Games, with a total of 620 medals: 156 gold, 209 silver, and 255 bronze.
