Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, formerly of Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli, is close to moving to the Qatari league during the current transfer window.
The Algerian website "DZFoot" revealed that Mahrez has become close to signing with Qatar's Al-Shamal club in the coming hours, according to the site's information.
Mahrez, aged 35, left Al-Ahli Saudi Club this summer to become a free agent after spending three seasons with the team.
The Algerian site noted that Mahrez had been linked with moves to several clubs in Europe, the Gulf, and South America recently, including Italy's Como, Spain's Deportivo La Coruña, as well as clubs in Turkey and Brazil's Botafogo.
"DZFoot" added that Mahrez is currently in Dubai, undergoing individual training sessions to maintain his physical fitness while awaiting the resolution of his future.
According to the site, Mahrez's expected destination will be Qatar's Al-Shamal club, which includes his compatriots Baghdad Bounedjah, Omar Refik, and Nassim Ben Khalifa.
Al-Shamal currently ranks third in the Qatari league and is participating in the AFC Champions League this season, a tournament Mahrez won in the last two editions with Al-Ahli Saudi Club.
