Saudi club Al-Shabab has reached an agreement with Algerian player Riyad Mahrez, formerly of Al-Ahli Jeddah, to sign him during the current summer transfer window.
Mahrez left Al-Ahli Jeddah at the end of last season and became a free agent.
The Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported that Al-Shabab has agreed with Riyad Mahrez on his transfer to the team after both parties settled all details regarding the new contract; however, finalizing the deal remains pending approval from the Financial Control Committee of the Saudi Professional League.
According to the report, Al-Shabab and Mahrez have concluded negotiations concerning the contract, and both parties are awaiting approval to proceed to the final signing stage, while the league continues to reject registering the player based on the financial data submitted so far.
The league has requested Al-Shabab to provide guarantees related to the value of the contract to be signed with Mahrez, especially since the club is under active financial oversight, making approval of new financial commitments contingent upon meeting required conditions and providing necessary guarantees.
Al-Shabab continues working to fulfill these requirements and obtain approval after finalizing its agreement with the Algerian star, while Mahrez awaits the green light to complete his transfer and continue his career in the Saudi League wearing Al-Shabab's jersey.
Mahrez participated in 122 matches for Saudi Al-Ahli, scoring 37 goals and providing 50 assists across all competitions, both domestic and continental.
