Via Yallakora

Andrea Pirlo has become the most prominent candidate to coach the Italian national team in the coming period.

The Italian national team is searching for a new technical director after Gattuso's departure from coaching the Azzurri, following the failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper, Pirlo tops the list of candidates to coach the Italian national team for the next 4 years.

Although discussions were revolving around the duo Roberto Mancini and Antonio Conte, Paolo Maldini, the technical director of the Italian Federation, and his Brazilian assistant Leonardo, the technical advisor, are nominating Pirlo for the task of Azzurri coach.

The newspaper also indicates that Pep Guardiola is among the candidates to coach Italy in the coming period.

The picture becomes clearer after the press conference that Maldini and his deputy Leonardo will hold on July 23 next.

Maldini now, along with his advisor Leonardo, assumes the responsibility of choosing who will sit on the bench when Italy begins its journey in the European Nations League.

Pirlo has previously coached Juventus, the Turkish Fatih Karagümrük, and the Italian Sampdoria.
