External press reports have revealed the possibility of Hamza Abdel Karim, Barcelona's Spanish player, getting the chance to fill the outright striker position in the first team's ranks during the upcoming season.
Hamza Abdel Karim shone brilliantly in Barcelona's friendly against English side Birmingham City, scoring both of the team's goals in the match that the Blaugrana lost on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
The Spanish newspaper Sport reported that the Egyptian striker received direct praise from Hansi Flick, Barcelona's head coach, who commended his humility and character, confirming that he possesses great potential, and also praised his ability to appear in the right positions inside the penalty area.
Flick said after the Birmingham match that the striker must be present in such situations inside the box, noting that Hamza did exactly that in the required manner, which is what he expects from a player in the outright striker position.
The report pointed out that Hamza's importance has grown for Flick amid the changes in Barcelona's attack, especially after Robert Lewandowski's move to the American league and the uncertain future of Ferran Torres so far.
Sport also noted that Abdel Karim's chances rise amid Barcelona's ongoing search for a new outright striker, with uncertainty surrounding the situation of Argentine Julian Alvarez, Atletico Madrid's Spanish striker, who remains the Blaugrana's top target.
It added: "In light of these factors, Hamza Abdel Karim could turn from a mere young talent into a temporary solution for Flick at the start of the season, especially with his continued presence in first-team training."
Sport concluded: "Hamza will have the opportunity to continue proving that his brilliance against Birmingham was not just a coincidence, and that the young striker could be one of the solutions that were not on Barcelona's radar a few months ago."
Hamza Abdel Karim had joined Barcelona's youth team on loan from Al Ahly during the past winter transfer window, before the Blaugrana activated the purchase option this summer.
