Moroccan press reports revealed that the Confederation of African Football "CAF" has rejected the Egyptian proposal to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and Confederation Cup tournaments.
The newspaper Al-Muntakhab confirmed that CAF refused to make any change or amendment to the system and laws of the Champions League and Confederation tournaments in the next edition's competitions, following the Egyptian Football Association's proposal to increase the number of clubs.
It added that Maghreb Fes and Nahdat Berkane will represent Moroccan football in the African Champions League, while Raja and the Royal Army will participate in the Confederation Cup.
It explained that Wydad will be absent for the first time from continental competitions for more than a decade and a half, after the proposal to increase the number of clubs was rejected, which would have granted it a spot in the Confederation Cup in which it participated last season.
It pointed out that Al-Ahly Club had been dreaming of participating in the African Champions League and planning for it by signing distinguished players, but CAF's decision came as a painful blow to the Red Giant, which will compete with Raja and the Royal Army in the Confederation Cup.
