The Swiss Vladimir Petkovic, the coach of the Algerian national team, decided to leave the Desert Warriors after being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.
The Algerian national team exited the 2026 World Cup after losing to Switzerland 2-0 in the round of 32 match.
According to the Algerian newspaper Al-Shorouk, Petkovic announced his intention to resign from coaching Algeria.
The newspaper reported that Petkovic will submit his resignation from coaching Algeria next week.
The report indicated that whether Petkovic's departure comes through resignation or dismissal, the match against Switzerland was his last with the Desert Warriors.
Petkovic took over coaching Algeria in February 2024, succeeding Djamel Belmadi.
Petkovic led Algeria in 33 matches, winning 23, losing 5, and drawing 5.
Petkovic managed to lead Algeria to the 2026 World Cup finals after missing the 2018 and 2022 editions.
