Senegalese Yusuf Dabo arrives in Libya on Wednesday to sign his coaching contracts for the Libyan national team, replacing his compatriot Aliou Cisse, according to the Ain Libya network.
The report clarified that the Libyan Football Federation has settled its decision to assign the technical leadership to Dabo, who was serving as the assistant coach within the previous technical staff led by Aliou Cisse.
Last April, Cisse left the Libyan national team despite his contract extending until 2027, due to not receiving his dues.
The report revealed that the choice of Dabo was not merely a technical decision, but also came as a result of the financial circumstances the Libyan Football Federation is experiencing, as the necessary budget was not available to contract with a new foreign technical director along with his complete technical staff, which prompted the federation officials to rely on a coach who knows the details of the national team and possesses full knowledge of the players and the current stage.
The Libyan Federation believes that Dabo represents the most realistic option at the present time, especially with the limited time before the start of the official entitlements, as he will begin his mission directly by leading the national team in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to begin next September.
Cisse left coaching the Libyan national team last April despite his contract remaining valid until 2027, and took over coaching the Angolan national team a few days later.
It appears that the delay in his dues for several months was one of the reasons for his departure, according to Libyan reports.
Cisse assumed the task of coaching the Libyan national team in March 2025, succeeding Nasser Al-Hudairi.
