This season's edition of the Spanish league began on August 15 of this month, but Real Madrid and Barcelona did not play their first-round matches on schedule, with each team set to start their campaign in the competition from the second round.
This comes after their opening-round matches were postponed due to the participation of several players from both teams with their national teams in the 2026 World Cup, which ended on July 19 last.
Clubs with a large number of players who participated in the advanced stages of the World Cup were granted additional time before playing their opening matches in the new season's La Liga.
As a result, Real Madrid kicked off its La Liga campaign with a 2-1 away win against Espanyol last Saturday, before hosting Sociedad in a match postponed from the second round.
