The proposal to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League in the new season "2026-2027" is gaining acceptance within the Confederation of African Football "CAF".
The Egyptian Football Association, headed by Hani Abu Rida, had submitted a request to increase the number of clubs participating in African championships.
The Moroccan website "le360 sport" stated that the proposal received positive interaction within the corridors of the Confederation of African Football "CAF".
It added that a number of members of the Executive Office are inclined to approve increasing the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League, while keeping the Confederation Cup system without any modification, and there is consensus on this within "CAF".
It explained that the proposal grants national federations an additional seat in the Champions League, provided that these seats are distributed according to continental ranking criteria and the regulatory controls in force at "CAF".
The Moroccan report indicated that what increased the likelihood of adopting this proposal is the decision taken by the Competitions Committee to postpone once again the determination of the clubs participating in the African competitions until next August, which gives "CAF" an additional period to complete the legal and regulatory procedures before the official announcement of the new system.
