The excitement of the Egyptian League began early in terms of results, driven by the performances of the clubs recently promoted to the local competition. The current edition features three newly promoted teams: Abu Qir Fertilizers, Al Qana, and Petroleum Asyut.
The first surprise of the 2026-27 Egyptian League season came when Abu Qir Fertilizers defeated Al Ahli Bank 1-0 in a match held at Alexandria Stadium.
This victory was the first win of the first round, as the first day of the round saw a goalless draw between Wadi Degla and Zed, and a goalless draw between league champions Al Ahly and Al Ittihad Alexandria.
This edition marks Abu Qir Fertilizers' first-ever participation in the league, while Al Qana and Petroleum Asyut have previous experience in the local competition.
Abu Qir Fertilizers is scheduled to face Pyramids FC, the runner-up in the previous edition, in the second round next Thursday at the Air Defense Stadium.
Meanwhile, Petroleum Asyut earned a point after drawing 1-1 with Petrojet in the same round, in a match held at Borg El Arab Stadium.
Petroleum Asyut is set to face Smouha in the second round, in a match that will open the round, scheduled for next Wednesday.
The third team, Al Qana, pulled off a major upset by defeating Ceramica Cleopatra 2-1 in a match held at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.
Despite falling behind by a goal, the coastal team managed to turn the tide, scoring two goals in the second half to secure a valuable three points.
Al Qana is scheduled to host Gouna in the second round, in a match set for next Friday.
