French press reports revealed that Arsenal club is on the verge of reaching an agreement with Newcastle United to sign Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães, after raising its offer to 90 million euros, excluding bonuses, while some final details are still under negotiation before the deal is officially completed.
According to the French newspaper L'Équipe, Guimarães, who is 28 years old, had previously reached an agreement with Arsenal's management regarding a contract that extends until the summer of 2031, but negotiations between the two clubs continued due to Newcastle's insistence on obtaining a financial value close to 100 million euros in exchange for relinquishing their captain.
It added that Arsenal had previously submitted two offers worth 70 million euros and then 80 million euros, but they were rejected, before the London club succeeded in raising its offer to 90 million euros, along with bonuses whose details have not yet been agreed upon, in addition to agents' commissions.
L'Équipe pointed out that the Brazilian international player, who has played 48 matches with his country's national team and scored three goals, expressed his desire to experience a new adventure and participate in the UEFA Champions League, after informing Newcastle's management of his desire to leave two years before the end of his contract.
The newspaper also clarified that French club Lyon is awaiting the completion of the deal, as it retains 20% of the profit value resulting from any future sale of the player, which could grant it more than 8 million euros if Guimarães' transfer to Arsenal is completed in the coming days.
