Orlando Gil, the goalkeeper of the Paraguay national team, said that Kylian Mbappe, the striker of the France national team, refused to shake his hand after the end of their match in the round of 16 of the World Cup.
The final minutes of the match witnessed clashes between Mbappe and several Paraguayan players, before the referee blew the final whistle with France winning 1-0, scored by Mbappe from a penalty awarded after a VAR review.
Gil explained that he tried to approach Mbappe for a handshake after the match ended, but the latter refused and celebrated with the fans, while the goalkeeper threw the ball towards the back of the French team captain.
Gil said in statements reported by the FIFA website: "This is football, I tried to shake his hand but he clearly ignored me. I was angry at that moment, but I calmed down later, I just wanted to congratulate him on the win."
The goalkeeper, who contributed to Paraguay reaching this stage after defeating Germany in a penalty shootout, added: "France has had an outstanding journey in the tournament and is a strong contender to win the World Cup."
He continued: "I believe that if it weren't for the penalty, the match would have extended to extra time, but they were decisive at that moment, and that's why they advanced to the next round."
