The African Football Confederation "CAF" announced a set of important decisions regarding national team tournaments in the coming years, on the sidelines of its meetings, which included an unprecedented increase in the financial prizes for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, updates regarding the organization of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, and opening the door for bidding to host the subsequent editions of the tournament.
Patrice Motsepe held a press conference in which he announced the decisions regarding the national team tournaments.
The Women's Africa Cup of Nations witnessed the largest increase in its history in terms of financial prizes, as CAF decided to double the champion's prize by 100% to reach two million dollars, after it was one million dollars in the previous edition.
The total value of the prizes also increased by 67%, from 3.475 million dollars to 5.8 million dollars, while the runner-up prize increased by 50% to reach 750 thousand dollars, while the third-place prize increased by 43%.
CAF also decided to grant each of the 16 participating national teams an amount of 150 thousand dollars for participation, an increase of 20% over the previous edition in which each team received 125 thousand dollars.
The African Confederation indicated that the tournament prizes have witnessed a major leap since the current administration took responsibility for CAF, as the champion's prize increased by 900% from 200 thousand dollars to two million dollars, while the total value of the prizes increased by 495% from 975 thousand dollars to 5.8 million dollars, and the number of participating teams doubled from 8 to 16 teams.
With regard to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, CAF confirmed that preparations are proceeding well to host the tournament in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda under the slogan "Bamoj a", praising the full cooperation from the governments of the three countries to ensure the readiness of the stadiums, training grounds, accommodation, transportation, security, medical services, technological infrastructure, television broadcasting, and all the requirements for organizing the tournament.
CAF also announced the continuation of the bidding process to host the 2028, 2032 and 2036 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, explaining that the application process is witnessing great interest, and that many countries have submitted strong files to host the three editions, and that the decisions regarding the organizing countries will be announced in due course.
In the same context, the African Confederation revealed the launch of a call for submissions for the commercial rights for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, noting that it has already received many offers from major global marketing and commercial rights companies.
CAF explained that the goal of this step is to maximize the financial returns of the tournament, and increase its commercial value, which will be reflected in the development of football in the 54 member national federations, and support the various African Confederation competitions.
CAF concluded its decisions by announcing the holding of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly on November 21, 2026 in the Nigerian capital Abuja, thanking the Nigerian government and the Nigerian Football Federation for their cooperation in hosting the event, and expressing its confidence that the assembly will be an important station for advancing the development of African football.
