Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam officially announced reaching an agreement with Spanish Barcelona to sign German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
According to what Ajax confirmed in an official statement today, Tuesday, Stegen (34 years old) will join the ranks of the Dutch team on loan for one season.
Stegen's transfer to Ajax comes after a period he spent with Girona, where he played with the Catalan team on loan during the second half of last season, before returning to Barcelona, then deciding to try a new experience in the Dutch league.
With Stegen's transfer to Ajax, the veteran German goalkeeper returns to work with coach Michel, who he previously trained under during his loan period to Girona.
Stegen had joined Barcelona in the summer of 2014 coming from German Borussia Mönchengladbach, and his current contract with Barça extends until June 2028, but doubts have recently surrounded his continuation.
Barcelona wants to get rid of Stegen, who has become out of coach Hans Flick's calculations with the presence of the duo Juan Garcia and Wojciech Szczęsny, in addition to the high salary of the German goalkeeper.
