The Ghana Football Association announced the mutual termination of the contract with Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, head coach of the Ghana national team, following an agreement between both parties.

Queiroz said in a statement via the GFA website: "Following discussions held in an atmosphere of mutual respect, I and the Ghana Football Association have agreed to terminate the service contract governing my role as head coach of the Ghana national team."

He continued: "This decision was not easy, but both parties agreed that ending our professional relationship - under the current circumstances - is the most appropriate option, placing the interests of Ghana and Ghanaian football above all else."

He added: "It has been an honor for me to serve Ghana and the 'Black Stars' team. I extend my sincere thanks to the Ghana Football Association, particularly its president, for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to lead a proud footballing nation."

He clarified: "I came to Ghana with a firm determination to help build a stronger future for the national team and support talent development in the country. Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully met, and our recent performance contributed to the decision to end this journey. I leave carrying feelings of respect, gratitude, and pride."

He completed: "I thank my technical staff and everyone who supported us, especially since the beginning of our work preparing for the 2026 World Cup. Above all, I salute the players of the 'Black Stars' team. Thank you to everyone who represented Ghana with courage, dedication, and pride; you fought for your country and carried the hopes of millions."

He continued: "Trust these players. Protect them. Support them. The talent and potential are there; and with unity, support, and providing the right environment, this generation can achieve great accomplishments for Ghana."

He concluded: "To the people of Ghana and all supporters of the national team, thank you for your passion, support, and hospitality. I will always carry Ghana in my heart with respect and affection. Ghana comes first."
