Zamalek is close to settling on the choice of its new coach to lead the team during the next season 2026/2027.

And FilGoal.com learned that the Bulgarian Ivaylo Petev has become among the candidates to coach Zamalek during the next season.

The selection of the coach is expected to be settled and announced within 48 hours.

Petev's most recent experience was with Emirati side Baniyas, which lasted only 6 matches, during which the team suffered 5 defeats and drew one match without securing a win.

Petev began his coaching career in 2008 with Bulgarian side Lyubimets.

During his career, Petev has managed 12 different teams, most notably Ludogorets, whom he coached on two occasions, as well as Dinamo Zagreb, Saudi side Al-Qadsiah, the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, and the Bulgaria national team.

During his career, Petev has won 6 titles: the Bulgarian League three times, the Bulgarian Cup twice, and the Bulgarian Super Cup once, all with Ludogorets.

The 51-year-old previously played football as a player but spent his entire career with Bulgarian clubs, except for one season in Greece with Trikala.

Petev may take charge of Zamalek succeeding Moataz Jamal, who ended the season as the team's coach.

Zamalek won the Egyptian Premier League title for the 15th time in its history during the past season.

Zamalek will participate in the CAF Champions League during the next season.

Zamalek is awaiting the signing of a new coach to begin preparations for the next season.
