Patrice Motsepe, President of the African Football Confederation, responded to news of increasing club seats in the African Champions League and the Confederation, following the request submitted by Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association.
Abu Rida had requested to increase the number of participating clubs in both the African Champions League and the African Confederation Cup, by granting each member association an additional seat, provided that these seats are distributed according to the classification criteria and regulations approved by the African Football Confederation.
Motsepe said during statements at the press conference held in South Africa today, Wednesday: "If we receive any request, we discuss it, and we look with the higher authorities in CAF, and we have looked at all requests, I answered now.. What do you want me to say? Should I increase the number of participating clubs?".
He added: "Decisions of this kind must come from the Supreme Committee, and it will be by sending the matter and studying it and our role is to transfer it to the important authorities".
