José Mourinho, the Portuguese manager of Real Madrid, commented on the announcement by Lionel Messi, the Inter Miami star and Barcelona legend, following his declaration of retirement from international football.
In an official statement posted on his "Instagram" account, Messi wrote: "After all this time since the final, and after long consideration, I want to announce to everyone that I have decided to retire from playing for the national team."

He added: "It was a painful decision and it still hurts deep inside, but I realize that the time has come. I swear to you that I have always given everything I had, not only in the recent years when we achieved everything, but before that as well. I have always fought and given everything I have for this shirt, and to make you happy and proud to be Argentine through football."
Mourinho commented on Messi's post, saying: "Congratulations on a wonderful and unforgettable international career. The upcoming Copa America and World Cup will not be the same without you as they were before."
