Press reports revealed a new development regarding increasing the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League, following the proposal submitted by Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association.

It is planned to grant some national federations an additional seat in African Champions League, provided that the seats are distributed according to the continental ranking and the regulatory bylaws approved by the "CAF".

Al Ahly awaits the African Union’s decision to return to participating in the African Champions League after finishing third in the Egyptian League last season.

The Moroccan website "Le360 Sport" reported that Abu Rida’s proposal received positive interaction within the "CAF", amid support from a number of Executive Committee members for the idea of increasing the number of participants in the African Champions League, while keeping the Confederation Cup system unchanged.

The chances of adopting the new system have increased after the Competitions Committee’s decision to postpone the final deadline for determining the clubs participating in the African tournaments until next August, which gives the continental federation additional time to complete the legal and regulatory procedures.
