Days ago, Hani Abu Rida, the head of the Football Association, requested an increase in the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup, according to what the Football Association revealed in an official statement.
The championship website reported that the CAF competitions committee recommended rejecting the proposal, while clarifying the reasons for the rejection in an official memorandum addressed to the Nigerian CAF Secretary General, Samson Adamu.
The report added that Adamu, in turn, contacted South African Patrice Motsepe, the CAF president, to discuss the situation before directing the official response to the Egyptian Football Association.

The Egyptian Football Association explained in its statement last Thursday: "In light of the achievements made by the African federations participating in the World Cup, Hani Abu Rida submitted an official request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which includes a request to increase the number of clubs participating in both the African Champions League and the African Confederation Cup."
He added, "Abu Rida requested granting each member federation an additional seat, provided that these seats are distributed according to the classification criteria and regulations approved by the Confederation of African Football."
The federation's statement concluded: "The share of some federations may rise, according to the classification criteria in effect, to 3 clubs in the African Champions League and 3 clubs in the African Confederation Cup, provided that the additional clubs' participation begins from the preliminary rounds."
The league champion and the runner-up are scheduled to participate in the African Champions League.
Meanwhile, the third-place finisher in the league and the cup champion participate in the African Confederation Cup.
Zamalek won the league title, while Pyramids finished second, Al Ahly third, Ceramica Cleopatra fourth, and Al Masry fifth in the standings.
