The African Football Confederation "CAF" is heading towards approving the proposal to increase the number of teams participating in the African Champions League next season.
The Moroccan website "Sport 7" revealed that members of the CAF Executive Committee initially agree with the idea, pending its approval during the upcoming meetings.
The site indicated that indicators within CAF at the present time have become more positive compared to the past period, after the file moved from the study stage to the procedural arrangements stage.
This comes after the CAF Competitions Committee decided to postpone the final deadline for sending the lists of participating teams in the tournament until mid-August next.
This grants CAF an opportunity to study this file accurately before implementing it next season.
The site clarified that only the African Champions League tournament will increase its number of teams, without addressing the idea of increasing the number of teams in the Confederation Cup.
Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, had submitted a request to the African Union to raise the number of participating clubs in the African Champions League next season.
Provided that the increase comes from the countries of Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and South Africa, which are the four highest-ranked countries in CAF tournaments.
And if this proposal is approved, Zamalek, Pyramids, and Al-Ahly will all participate in the African Champions League from Egypt next season.
