Rulani Mokwena, the new technical director of Pyramids, confirmed that he was close to coaching the team on more than one previous occasion, indicating that he had studied 39 matches before moving to coach Al-Samawi.
Rulani Mokwena said in radio statements: "So far everything is fine with Pyramids Club.. I am settling into a new environment, but it is a good environment, a very stable environment".
The South African coach added: "I feel privileged and deeply proud to be in an environment where I work with very good people, and I think that in the first few days we were able to sense that".
He continued: "Certainly, Pyramids is a very good team, a team that has been together for a relatively long time and achieved a lot of successes, so yes, so far everything is fine".
Regarding his knowledge of the team's capabilities, he said: "I watched 39 matches for Pyramids last season, so I have some information regarding the team and performance from last season, but nothing is better than being on the pitch".
He added: "We want to get information such as feeling how the players breathe, the sound of the ball when they make passes.. These are also the information we are trying to gather from the players, how they react when they concede a goal".
He continued: "We also want to know how the players react when their teammates lose the ball.. But so far everything is fine. We are settling in, and we have been warmly received by both the country and the club".
Regarding the secret of his attraction to coaching Pyramids, he said: "Well, the context is also very important because this could have happened two years ago and did not happen for reasons that God saw were for the best".
He went on: "It could have happened at the end of last season, and again it did not materialize, as there were very strong talks, in fact very advanced, but it did not happen".
He added: "I think the current time is the right time when you look at how the Egyptian national team performed in the World Cup, you realize that we are coming to a country that is very passionate about football, and also at a good moment, because I think this generation of local Egyptian players is of a very high level".
He continued: "When there is this kind of momentum inside the country, and an important club like Pyramids in the country that includes some international players who contribute to the national team, you have to, as you know, take advantage of this momentum".
Rulani Mokwena concluded his statements by saying: "There are many very good positives regarding why this is happening now, and certainly when a club of this size gives you this kind of opportunity, it is very very difficult to say no".
