Argentine national team star Lionel Messi broke his silence after losing the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday evening to Spain.
MetLife Stadium hosted the World Cup final match between Argentina and Spain, where the latter won with a goal to nil.
After the match, Lionel Messi appeared in a state of deep sadness as he was seeking to win the World Cup for the second time in his professional career.

Lionel Messi wrote via his personal Instagram account: "The pain is deep and that wound will take time to heal, but I also hold on to everything that is wonderful, the matches in which we turned the result around and gave our all, will remain immortal in our memory, along with the support of an entire country and the hard work and effort exerted by that team, which led us to be among the best in the world once again".
He added: "It is difficult today to fully appreciate what we have achieved, but that team reached the World Cup final two times in a row; thank you from the bottom of my heart for every greeting and message. We have succeeded in uniting together again as one country, to be together sharing the great pride of being Argentinians".
He continued: "I would also like to send my congratulations to Spain on winning the World Cup".
