Barcelona legend and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has arrived in Argentina, where he is preparing to bid farewell to his father, Jorge Messi, who passed away yesterday, Saturday, after battling an illness.
Messi’s father’s condition had deteriorated significantly in recent days before he passed away yesterday, Saturday, at nearly 68 years of age.
Messi did not feature for Inter Miami in their Leagues Cup match against Monterrey, which Inter Miami lost 2-1 (details here).
The newspaper “Sport” confirmed that Messi arrived in his hometown in Argentina—Santa Fe province, Rosario city—yesterday, Saturday, at exactly 8:40 p.m. on a private flight from Florida.

Messi arrived in Rosario under tight security and was driven to the family home to meet his mother, Celia Cuccittini, along with his siblings Rodrigo, Matías, and María Sol.
The newspaper added that Messi’s family will hold Jorge’s funeral today at El Prado Cemetery, a private cemetery on the outskirts of Rosario. The service will be strictly private, limited to family and close friends only.
Jorge was a pivotal figure in Messi’s life; he served as the Argentine star’s agent and greatly supported his 39-year-old son throughout his football career.
