Marwan Attia, Al-Ahly and Egypt national team midfielder, revealed the behind-the-scenes details of his joining the Red Castle, confirming that he did not hesitate to accept Al-Ahly's offer despite the warnings he received regarding the difficulty of securing playing opportunities.
Marwan said in statements to Faiq fi Al-Mondial that he has belonged to Al-Ahly since childhood, explaining: "I am a die-hard Ahly fan, and there is a photo of me at the age of six wearing the Al-Ahly shirt, and my father, may God have mercy on him, was a lover of the club to the point that his blood pressure and blood sugar levels were affected by the team's results."
The Al-Ahly player added that he did not consider any other offers as soon as Al-Ahly's offer arrived, saying: "I did not think about any other offer when Al-Ahly contacted me, even though many told me that my chances of playing would be slim, but I told them that I had made my decision, and even if I did not play, it would be enough for me that it would be written in my biography that I was a player for Al-Ahly."
Marwan pointed out that Swiss coach Marcel Koller played a major role in his development, explaining: "From the first day with Koller, I felt the difference, and I traveled with the team to the training camp immediately, and I was confident in myself, and all my focus was on work and diligence."
The Egypt national team midfielder confirmed that his standout performances with Al-Ahly opened the doors to the national team for him, saying: "My chances with the Egypt national team became greater after I proved myself wearing the Al-Ahly shirt."
Marwan spoke about his family, noting that he is the youngest of eight siblings, all of whom played football, and said: "I am the least skilled among my brothers in football, and they all played for clubs like Al-Krom, Malia Kafr El-Zayat, and Al-Ahly, and they had great potential, but their circumstances did not help them continue."
He also touched on his family life, affirming the strong bond he shares with his brothers, saying: "We are like a train; no one can separate from the other, and I hope this blessing lasts. My whole life revolves around my work, my daughter, my wife, and my brothers."
Marwan Attia concluded his statements by talking about his parents, saying: "I did not know my mother because she passed away when I was five years old, while my father passed away in 2023, and he treated me in a special way."
