Enzo Maresca, Manchester City's new manager, confirmed his great happiness at returning to the pitches, affirming his satisfaction with the new step and his readiness to face the expected challenge, after Pep Guardiola's departure.
Maresca said during the press conference: "I feel as if I have returned home, I feel completely satisfied. The feeling since the first day has been wonderful. So I am happy, it is a beautiful challenge, a challenge to do the right things, for the club, the fans, and for everyone."
Maresca comments on Manchester City's transfer market
He added: "The transfer market? I always think there is something that can be done, there are probably a few things that need to be done, and we are in the process of doing that."
When asked about succeeding Pep Guardiola, he replied: "It is a great honor, the mere fact that the club chose me for this task is in itself an honor for me. I consider Pep the best coach in the world over the last 20 or 25 years. It is a wonderful challenge, and at the same time a great privilege."
He continued: "History also shows that any coach who comes after a manager who has spent many years at the club faces difficulty at the beginning, like Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger, but I see it as a challenge that pushes me to do things the right way from day one."
He added: "This club has had three managers in the last 17 years, which is unusual; it does not happen often. This is perhaps one of the things I am confident we can do great work in, continuing the work that has been done over the past 14 or 15 years."
Maresca pointed out: "The last group of players participating in the World Cup will join us 3 or 4 days before the Charity Shield match. I think there is always something that can be done."
He went on: "Whether because we want to, or because of the nature of the ongoing transfer market dynamics, there may be some steps required, and we are currently working on completing them."
Rodri and Grealish's fate with City
Regarding Rodri's link with Real Madrid, he said: "We have to say that speculation always surrounds the big players; I am not worried about that, it is normal. They won the World Cup and he was one of the best players. Every manager wants to sign Rodri, but he will undergo surgery now, then he will return to us."
He added: "Grealish is here currently, and he is a Manchester City player. When there are players who belong to the club, my duty is to try to coach them. Jack is here at the moment; I have a good relationship with him, and the reason for that is that he has a big heart, and we will see what happens."
He continued: "To be honest, I feel very lucky with regard to my previous clubs; Leicester and Chelsea. I think we did a great job at both clubs; the identity of both teams was clear, as was their success, and I feel very grateful to have been part of them."
Maresca clarified: "I see our presence here today as the most important thing; the focus is only on Manchester City, and nothing else to add."
Uncertainty surrounding James Trafford's future
Regarding James Trafford's future? He commented: "I know James because he was my goalkeeper when I was with the City under-23 team, so I know him well, but again, when the transfer window is open, now or in January, anything can happen, so we will see, but at the moment he is one of our goalkeepers."
He stated: "I know this institution well, and I have known the people inside the club for years, and speaking about the club's structure; when a club changes its managers only three times over the course of nearly twenty years."
He concluded: "That reflects how solid this structure is and its understanding of the importance of giving time to everything. Therefore, since Manchester City contacted me, I have not had the slightest doubt about my desire to join this wonderful club."
