Barcelona is preparing to move strongly in the summer transfer market, after the club's management decided to obtain a loan worth 210 million euros in order to finance the team's reinforcements in preparation for the new season.
According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the sports management led by Hans Flick, Barcelona's coach, believes that the team needs strong reinforcements to compete in all competitions, foremost among them the UEFA Champions League, after the team proved in the past two seasons its ability to compete locally, without succeeding in reaching the title of the continental championship.
The report explained that Barcelona, despite approaching a return to the 1:1 rule related to financial fair play, which will give it greater flexibility in registering players and fully benefiting from the proceeds of selling its players, that will not be sufficient to finance the targeted deals.
For this reason, the club's management resorted to requesting a loan worth 210 million euros guaranteed by the expected revenues for the next season, given the club's suffering from a lack of financial liquidity.
The reports added that the largest part of the loan value will be allocated to concluding new deals, while a limited part will be used to cover salaries and some daily operational expenses of the club.
Barcelona is currently working on contracting with Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, and Karim Adeyemi during the summer mercato.
Adeyemi's deal seems the closest to being concluded, while the club awaits the end of the World Cup before officially moving to conclude Alvarez's deal, while Cancelo's deal is still linked to resolving some tax files.
Barcelona had previously announced the signing of Anthony Gordon coming from Newcastle United as the first deals of the Catalan team this summer.
