Ajax Amsterdam withdrew from the race to sign a contract with Dani Ceballos, the former Real Madrid midfielder, after a long period of negotiations between the two parties.
Marca newspaper explained that the Dutch club ended weeks of intensive contacts and waiting, after failing to receive a positive response from the former Merengue player.
It indicated that the Dutch club had reached a preliminary financial agreement with Real Madrid regarding the player's transfer, when he was still linked to a contract with the Spanish club, except that the deal did not go through due to the player's demands and his unwillingness to leave.
The main obstacle to the deal was the difficulty of Ceballos terminating his contract with Real Madrid, in addition to this administrative problem, there were the player's ongoing doubts, as he was not entirely convinced that Ajax was the ideal destination to continue his football career.
