According to Sky Sports, Manchester United has identified Newcastle's Lewis Hall and Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly as top options to strengthen the left flank, but circumstances at both clubs could make completing either deal difficult during the current transfer window.
United has already contacted Newcastle to inquire about the possibility of signing Hall, but the club's stance is clear following statements from their coach Matthias Jaissle, who confirmed that the player is not for sale. This may prompt Manchester United officials to continue monitoring him until next summer.
As for Lewis-Skelly, securing his signature has become increasingly difficult at present due to his multiple roles at Arsenal, especially given his ability to play both in midfield and at left-back, alongside his team's need for his services following Bruno Guimarães' injury.
Sky Sports believes Manchester United faces a decision similar to those made in previous transfer windows; instead of signing a player merely to fill a gap, the club may prefer to wait a full year to acquire the player they deem suitable for their project.
The club previously followed this same approach when strengthening their attack by signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, while preferring to wait for their desired midfield targets.
Therefore, despite the obvious need for a new left-back, Manchester United may choose to wait until the summer of 2027, hoping that deals for Hall or Lewis-Skelly become more feasible, rather than spending money on a temporary solution.
