Argentine international Lisandro Martínez, first-team player for Manchester United Football Club, responded to what are known as the anti-Argentina campaigns following their campaign in the 2026 World Cup.
Lisandro Martínez took part in Argentina’s defeat to Spain by a single goal in the 2026 World Cup final.
The Argentine national team eliminated Egypt from the 2026 World Cup in the round of 16.
Lisandro said in statements to the newspaper “AS”: “I feel conflicting emotions; I feel some anger because they have no clear basis for stirring up this hatred”.

He added: “But I see how my teammates fight on the pitch and how our fans make us feel as if we are playing at home”.
He continued: “This perhaps reflects more on the position of those saying these things than on our own position; we have always respected our opponents”.
Regarding not seeing Spain’s title celebration in a moment that sparked much controversy, he explained: “We greeted all the players and the entire technical staff”.
He went on: “The image you see of us turning our backs was when our fans were singing to us; that was an expression of our respect for our fans and staying in our place when we had to stay”.
He concluded about his performance in the World Cup: “We did not win this time, but I think we won in many other aspects; we showed the world what it means to be Argentine”.
