Rafael Leão, the Portugal national team star, expressed his great happiness with the victory achieved by his team against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.
The Portuguese national team defeated their hosts, Denmark, by four goals to two, in the match that brought the two teams together last Thursday evening, as part of the third round of the group stage of the UEFA Nations League tournament.
The match saw Rafael Leão start in the lineup, wearing the number 7 shirt, which has been vacated from Cristiano Ronaldo's possession for the second time over a span of 19 years.
Rafael Leão said about wearing the number 7 shirt: "This number holds special significance... Yes, Cristiano is my role model; he was my childhood hero... The number seven has a special meaning for me; it represents the birth dates of my children."
The Turkish Galatasaray winger added: "I simply tried to honor the shirt and enjoy the moment with my teammates... I think the most important thing is that we played well and secured the win."
He continued: "I believe Cristiano Ronaldo is happy with this victory... We proved that we are one unit; and I trust that he is happy at home with this win... I have a good relationship with him, and I know his nature well."
He completed: "The team is the most important; we collected another 3 points and topped the group... It is now time to rest and prepare for Monday's match... The group is the most important, as is our reaction as a single team."
He went on: "We knew it would be a difficult match, given that they were playing at home and enjoying fan support... We faced a team similar to Norway... They rely heavily on physical strength."
Rafael Leão concluded his statements saying: "The coach prepared us excellently. In these two matches, we started with very high organization, and when scoring opportunities arose, we handled them with great effectiveness and scored four goals."
