The Egyptian Football Association announced the launch of a development camp for Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials, attended by 35 Premier League referees and running until next Tuesday.
The camp includes theoretical lectures and practical training using the "Simulator" device, as part of the Main Referees Committee's plan to elevate the level of Egyptian refereeing and improve the performance of VAR officials.
Dr. Mostafa Azzam, Secretary General of the Egyptian Football Association, welcomed Italian international instructor Paolo Valeri, Egyptian international instructors, and the referees participating in the camp. He emphasized the importance of such courses in developing the Egyptian refereeing system and enhancing referee efficiency, wishing all participants success and benefit from the technical expertise provided during the camp, while reaffirming the Association's welcome to them at the home of Egyptian football.
Italian international instructor Paolo Valeri is leading the lectures at the camp. He expressed his happiness at being in Egypt, praising the history of Egyptian refereeing and the prominent referees it has produced on the international stage, most recently at the 2026 World Cup. He stressed the importance of continuous training and leveraging international expertise to develop the VAR system.
For his part, Essam Abdel-Fattah, Chairman of the Referees Committee, affirmed the importance of continuing to develop VAR officials and raising their competence through theoretical and practical training, as well as improving coordination between on-field referees and VAR officials, thereby contributing to elevating the standard of Egyptian refereeing.
Competitions in the Egyptian league, specifically Matchday 6, will resume after the international break on October 11th, featuring the marquee clash between Al-Ahly and Zamalek.
