The African Football Confederation "CAF" is studying increasing the number of participating teams in the Africa Cup of Nations during the upcoming editions of the continental competition.
A source told Yalla Koura in exclusive statements: "There is a trend within CAF to increase the number of teams in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, but no final decision has been made yet".
Patrice Motsepe, President of the African Football Confederation, had previously hinted at the possibility of increasing the number of participating teams in the Africa Cup of Nations in the coming years.
Motsepe said in a CAF press conference held in Tanzania that the number of Africa Cup of Nations teams could reach 28 instead of 24 teams.
The CAF president had previously announced that the Africa Cup of Nations would be held every 4 years, starting from the 2028 edition, provided that the years in which it is not held are interspersed with the African Nations League competition.
