The Portuguese Jose Gomes, coach of Al-Khaleej, confirmed that the primary goal for the next season is to ensure early survival in the Saudi league.
Weeks ago, Al-Khaleej announced its contract with the former Zamalek coach for a two-season deal until 2028.
Gomes said in statements reported by the Saudi sports newspaper: "I am very happy to return to Saudi Arabia, which I consider my second family, due to my work with Saudi clubs for years."
He added, "I feel proud to sign with a big and prestigious club like Al-Khaleej, and I preferred the club's project over other offers, convinced by the management's vision and their belief in building a distinguished work over the next two seasons."
For his part, club president Ahmed Khreida welcomed the new coach, confirming that the contract with him came after careful study, aiming to complete the technical project the team presented in past seasons in the league.
Khreida explained that the management is working on addressing the defensive errors that were not satisfactory to the fans, in addition to developing the offensive system, which will contribute to the team appearing better in the next season.
Regarding the possibility of moving matches with limited audience attendance to Al-Khaleej Club Stadium or Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Stadium in Qatif, Khreida answered: "We have submitted a request to the Ministry of Sports in coordination with the league association, but so far we have not received any official response, and therefore our matches will be played on schedule and at the designated location at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam."
Gomes' contract with Al-Fateh ended at the end of the last season, after which he moved to coach Al-Khaleej.
