Foreign press reports have revealed that Jorge Jesus, the head coach of the Portugal national team, intends to issue a public apology to Cristiano Ronaldo, the team's star player.

Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda clarified that Jesus will offer his public apology to Ronaldo following the conclusion of Portugal's match against Denmark.

The Portuguese national team faces its counterpart, Denmark, at Parken Stadium this Thursday evening at 9:45 PM (local time), as part of the third matchday of the UEFA Nations League group stage.

Pedro Sepúlveda wrote on his official Twitter account: "Jesus will offer a public apology to Ronaldo after today's match. Will that be enough to bring the captain back to the team?"

A crisis had erupted between Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo due to the latter's absence from the recent match against Norway. The situation escalated further with statements made by the Portuguese coach last night, prompting the Al-Nassr star to leave the team's camp in Denmark.

In comments to TalkSport, Sepúlveda explained that after the 2026 World Cup, Ronaldo considered retiring and spoke with the new board of the federation and with Jorge Jesus.

He added: "They agreed with Ronaldo that he would continue playing for the national team and retain the captaincy, but under different conditions than those in place during Roberto Martínez's tenure."

Sepúlveda concluded his remarks by saying: "Among these conditions, for example, there was an agreement between him and Jesus that he would play only two out of four matches, specifically the home games in Portugal, while not participating in away matches. However, Jorge reneged on that agreement."
