Jorge Jesus, the head coach of the Portugal national team, has left the door open for Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the squad, emphasizing that the team captain is the one who decides his international future. This comes after Ronaldo departed from Portugal's camp in Copenhagen during the current international break.
Following the 2-1 victory over Norway and qualification for the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals, Jesus stated that Ronaldo's departure from the camp was not a crisis. He described the incident as a "misunderstanding" that can be easily resolved, noting that all possibilities remain open regarding the return of Portugal's captain.
He added in comments to RTP channel: "I don't know what will happen. For me, anything is possible. It is up to Chris to decide his fate. If he is playing and wants to join the national team in the next call-up, why not? There is no resentment; it was just a misunderstanding, and in my opinion, it is easy to resolve."
He continued: "When will I resolve it? I don't know. The match is over, and only then will we see how things proceed," sending a clear message that the door to the national team remains open for Ronaldo, despite his leaving the camp before the match against Norway.
On the technical side, Jesus praised his perfect start with the Portuguese national team, having achieved four wins in his first four matches. He emphasized that the most important thing against Norway was securing the win and guaranteeing qualification, although he acknowledged that the match was not as difficult as the game against Denmark.
The Portuguese coach said: "Four matches, four wins. It is a journey I perhaps did not expect when I started, regardless of how much faith I have in this team." He stressed the strength of the Portuguese national team and its ability to achieve its goals, ahead of waiting for the last two matches and determining the list for the next call-up.
