External press reports revealed interest from the Scottish club Celtic to sign Imam Ashour, the Al-Ahly player, after his standout performance in the 2026 World Cup with the Egyptian national team.
Imam Ashour had participated in all of Egypt's matches in the 2026 World Cup, where he managed to score two goals, the first against Belgium and the second against Australia.
The Scottish website "Celts Are Here" reported that Celtic inquired about Imam Ashour's situation, amid the team's search for midfield reinforcements ahead of the next season.
The report indicated that Celtic views Ashour as a suitable player for the number 8 position, with the ability to also play as a defensive midfielder, and the 2026 World Cup demonstrated his capability to play on both the right and left wings.
It added: "Celtic have contacted the player's club and agent to discuss the possibility of signing more players under manager Martin O'Neill next season".
It continued: "While some reports suggested that Al-Ahly might demand a higher amount, we have learned that the deal could go through for around 4 million pounds sterling only".
The newspaper clarified that this amount could make the deal more realistic for Celtic compared to some of the higher figures mentioned regarding Ashour's situation in recent weeks.
It completed: "Al-Ahly holds a strong position because the midfielder's contract runs until 2028, but we have learned that the deal terms are not impossible at the present time".
The newspaper concluded: "It is also believed that there is interest from Saudi Arabia and England in Imam Ashour, which could complicate matters if Celtic decide to intensify their interest, as it would be difficult to compete financially with Saudi clubs, while any serious move from England would change the situation entirely".
