Spanish star Lamine Yamal, a player for the Spain national team and Barcelona, wasted no time in making his mark against Croatia, scoring a goal within just two minutes before celebrating by leaning on the corner flag, a scene that caught the attention of fans who are well familiar with Thierry Henry's famous celebration.
The secret behind Lamine Yamal's celebration against Croatia
It appeared that the Barcelona winger deliberately imitated Henry, the Arsenal and France national team legend, which Yamal later confirmed following Spain's big win.
When asked after the match why he specifically chose this celebration, Yamal explained that Henry represents one of his main sources of inspiration.
The 19-year-old said: "Thierry Henry is a huge reference for me, he is a legend, and Thierry had that famous celebration... so I wanted to present it on stage tonight."
This tribute added another touch to an exceptional night for Yamal, who delivered a standout performance during Spain's 4-1 victory over Croatia in Seville.
The Barcelona winger did not settle for opening the scoring with a calm strike; he also set up Marc Babel's second goal, before returning to find the net again in the second half.
Thanks to his brace and assist, Yamal became directly involved in all three of Spain's goals, before Nico Williams added the fourth in the final minutes.
Yamal's strong start to the season has raised his tally to 18 goal contributions in his first 10 matches for Barcelona and the Spain national team.
This impressive performance came just days after he scored against England at Wembley Stadium, confirming the consistent level he is delivering for both his club and his country.
The Barcelona star's performance also strengthened his chances in the race for the 2026 Ballon d'Or award, as voting has already closed, with the winner to be announced on October 26th.
