French referee Mathilde Demonceau suffered an injury that forced her to leave the pitch after falling to the ground while trying to break up a clash between players from French side Metz and Dutch side Fortuna Sittard in a friendly match.
BBC News reported that 26-year-old Demonceau suffered a concussion after falling hard while intervening to contain the clash.
The events began in the 40th minute when a dispute broke out between players from both teams following a shirt-pulling incident, before several players intervened and the situation escalated into a mass brawl.
While attempting to calm the situation, Demonceau fell hard to the pitch and remained holding her arm for several minutes, as the assistant referees, security personnel and medical staff entered to regain control of the situation and check on her condition.
Despite the injury, Demonceau returned to complete the match as an assistant referee after play resumed, but she left the pitch at the end of the first half and was replaced by another assistant.
The match ended with Metz winning 3-1.
