Imam Ashour, the Egyptian national team player, confirmed that all the "Pharaohs" players gave their utmost during the match against Argentina, despite the 3-2 loss in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, stressing that the team was close to achieving a great achievement against the world champion.
Ashour said in statements after the match: "We gave everything we had, and we entered the match with full focus, and the result was in our favor after we took a two-goal lead without reply against the world champion."
He added: "We had a goal that I don't know why it wasn't counted, and the third goal we conceded came from a penalty kick," referring to the refereeing decisions that occurred during the match.
The Egyptian national team player thanked his teammates, the technical staff, and the fans, saying: "I extend my thanks to all the players, the technical staff, and the fans for their support. The players were men and delivered a big match, and God willing, we will be able to please the fans in what is to come."
Ashour concluded his statements by saying: "God willing, the next stage will be better, and praise be to God in all circumstances."
The Egypt vs. Argentina match was held at Atlanta Stadium as part of the round of 16 of the World Cup.
