The Egyptian international Hossam Abdel-Maguid, defender of Zamalek Club, is preparing to begin his professional career through the Bulgarian Ludogorets gate.
Islam Abdel-Maguid, the agent and brother of Hossam Abdel-Maguid, announced the completion of the agreement between the Zamalek defender and the Bulgarian team.
Hossam Abdel-Maguid recently participated with the Egyptian national team in the 2026 World Cup.
Ludogorets is nicknamed "The Eagles," was founded in 1945, and was promoted to the First Division for the first time in 2011.
In its first season among the seniors, Ludogorets won the domestic treble (league, cup, and super cup).
The club has also participated in the UEFA Champions League more than once, achieving its first historic victory in the 2014-2015 season against Basel.
Ludogorets has won 14 Bulgarian League titles.
Preparations for the new season began on June 18
Ludogorets began its preparations for the new 2026-2027 season on June 18 in the city of Razgrad.
Contract termination with the coach by mutual consent
Ludogorets parted ways with its coach Per Mathias Høgmo by mutual consent on July 1.
The Norwegian coach had taken charge of Ludogorets on November 21, 2025, leading it in 30 official matches, achieving 16 wins, 6 draws, and 8 losses.
Høgmo also led Ludogorets to win the Bulgarian Super Cup, while the club finished third in the Bulgarian League last season.
Who will be the new coach?
According to "Sky Sports," Thomas Reis has reached a verbal agreement with Ludogorets to coach the team next season.
The new coach's contract is currently being drafted, and the deal is planned to run until 2028.
Pre-season friendlies
Ludogorets began its summer preparations with a resounding 7-4 victory over Etar in its first friendly match before the start of the new season.
On June 28, Ludogorets traveled to Bansko to hold a training camp to complete the second phase of its summer preparations.
Ludogorets played a friendly against Romanian side Botoșani, ending 2-2 on July 4.
Ludogorets played two friendlies today, Friday, against Septemvri Sofia, winning 1-0, and drawing 0-0 with Teuta Durrës.
Ludogorets begins its Bulgarian League campaign on July 18
Ludogorets will begin its Bulgarian League campaign for the new "2026-2027" season against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Saturday, July 18.
Participation in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers
Ludogorets will participate in the qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League for the new season.
According to current schedules, Ludogorets will face an Israeli club on July 23 and 30 in the qualifying round of the Conference League.
Ludogorets needs to advance past the qualifying round to participate in the league phase of the European competition.
