Islam Hassan, former player of Al-Ahly and the Egyptian national team, has announced his retirement from handball.
Islam expressed his gratitude to everyone who influenced his handball career, starting with his family, then Pakos Club where he began his journey, followed by Al-Ahly and its fans who supported him.
Islam, aged 37, returned to Al-Ahly in the summer of 2016 after a brief professional stint abroad.
Islam Hassan left Al-Ahly in the summer of 2023 following an exceptional season, embarking on a professional journey in the Gulf region, most notably with Al-Wahda in Saudi Arabia.
In his final season, the Al-Ahly captain led the handball team to win the league title, the Egyptian Cup, and the African Super Cup, thereby qualifying Al-Ahly for the Club World Cup.
Islam Hassan also contributed to Al-Ahly securing fourth place in the latest Super Globe tournament held in October 2015.
Islam Hassan succeeded in winning the league title six times previously, matching the number of times he won the Egyptian Cup.
At the continental level, he won the African Super Cup three times with Al-Ahly and once with Club Africain of Tunisia, totaling four African Super Cup titles historically.
He also won the African Champions League for league winners three times: twice with Al-Ahly and once with Club Africain of Tunisia.
Finally, Islam Hassan won the African Cup Winners' Cup four times, all with Al-Ahly.
