El-Gamal said in statements to On Sport TV: "We managed the match well, and it was possible for us to win against Zamalek, which is a great team."
He added: "We faced a great team, the league champion. Zamalek has certain issues that I hope will come to an end, but I am proud of my players and also of Al-Ittihad's fans."
He continued: "I thank the players and the technical staff; everyone exerted great effort. I specifically thank Mohamed Salama, and the board members who worked hard with us."
He concluded: "We were aware that Zamalek was lacking significantly in physical fitness, so we had to manage the match well. We started dominating possession in the second half. We could have won, but such is the nature of football."
