Charles Akonnor, the technical director of Kenya's Gor Mahia, affirmed that his team possesses all the qualities needed to overcome Pyramids in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League.
Gor Mahia will host their Egyptian counterparts, Pyramids, on Sunday evening, September 6, at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, for the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the second preliminary round, where they will face the victor of the tie between South Sudan's Al-Merrikh Bentiu and Somalia's Heegan.
In statements quoted by the Kenyan newspaper Citizen, Charles Akonnor said: "Pyramids is a big team, but anything is possible in football," affirming that his squad will approach the match with full strength to achieve a positive result.
The Ghanaian coach added: "Pyramids is one of the giants of African football, but what will determine the outcome is our readiness to deliver a good performance, especially in the first leg here in Kenya... It will be a difficult match for us, but I believe we have a chance."
Meanwhile, Akonnor emphasized the need to improve his team's defensive line after suffering a heavy 3-1 defeat against Tusker in last week's Kenyan Super Cup.
He continued: "As a team preparing for the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, we still have some aspects that need improvement, particularly on the defensive side."
Concluding his remarks, Charles Akonnor stated: "The match will not be easy for either side, which is why we are working on developing the team and achieving greater stability, including in the defensive line."
