Gordon: They didn't appreciate me properly in England... I play for Barcelona because I'm talented

English international Anthony Gordon, a player for FC Barcelona's first team, spoke about his decision to leave Newcastle United and join the Blaugrana.

Gordon is considered one of the influential players in the winger position whom German coach Hansi Flick has relied on heavily this season.

Gordon joined Barcelona during the last summer transfer window from Newcastle United.

Gordon said in statements reported by "Sport" newspaper: "Yes, and to be honest, I wanted to go to a top-level team that plays distinctive football."

He continued: "I wanted to leave the Premier League and experience something different, and that is what I sought. I felt I had more to offer than people realized, and I wanted to prove it on the biggest stage in the world."

He added: "Moving abroad was very important to me, and Barcelona was my ideal destination."

He went on: "I believe I have become seen as a different player by many. In England, I always felt respected for my speed and pressing ability, but they did not respect the quality of my play and my intelligence."

He emphasized: "It seemed that only the teammates I played with noticed that, so I don't think this aspect received full appreciation in England. People see me as a very fast and fierce player, whereas in Spain they appreciate my intelligence and the quality of my football."

The England international revealed: "At Barcelona, if you are not technically gifted or intelligent on the pitch, you will not be able to continue your journey at this club."

He concluded: "I believe the fans have given me more appreciation, but they are starting to realize it because they watch me play for Barcelona with a different style of football, where those qualities become clearer."
