Paris Saint-Germain club announced today, Sunday, officially, the signing of the French international left-back Lucas Digne, 33 years old, coming from English Aston Villa, with a contract extending for 3 years until the summer of 2029, in a deal estimated at about 7 million euros, so that the player returns to the French capital after 10 years of leaving it, and becomes the third summer deal for the current European champions..
According to the Parisian club's statement, Digne will wear the number 12 shirt, as stated in the statement: "Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the return of Lucas Digne. The French international defender signed a contract with the capital club that extends until 2029", in a move aimed at strengthening the left-back position and providing an experienced alternative to the Portuguese Nuno Mendes.
Digne's deal comes after the joining of the third goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni, and the French striker Magnis Akliouch last Thursday, as part of the plan of technical director Luis Enrique and sports director Luis Campos to bolster the team's ranks before the start of the new season.
Signing Digne is an attractive deal financially; as the Parisian club exploited the value of the release clause in his contract with Aston Villa, which amounted to just under 10 million euros, to add a player with extensive experience at a reasonable cost considering his impressive record at the highest levels.
During his four years in Birmingham since January 2022, Digne established himself as an indispensable key player at Aston Villa, where he played 182 matches, scoring 4 goals and providing 24 decisive passes, and crowned his career with the English club by winning the Europa League title last May under the leadership of coach Unai Emery after defeating the German Freiburg 3-0.
The past season also saw Digne's brilliance with the French national team in the 2026 World Cup, where he started the tournament as a substitute before surpassing Theo Hernandez in coach Didier Deschamps' ranking and becoming a basic option in the left defensive position.
Digne returns to the club for which he played 44 matches between 2013 and 2016 before being loaned to Roma in the last season, to meet again with his former coach Luis Enrique who worked with him during his time at Barcelona, one of the clubs he represented alongside Lille and Everton throughout his professional career.
