Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, formerly of Saudi club Al-Ahli, is close to joining Al-Shabab on a free transfer during the current summer window.
The "Lions of the Capital" are aiming to finalize the deal for the 35-year-old before the summer transfer window closes on Sunday.
According to the Saudi newspaper Okaz, Al-Shabab's management is awaiting German coach Thomas Letsch's decision on which foreign player to release in preparation for signing Riyad Mahrez.
Sources cited by the Saudi newspaper revealed that Al-Shabab's management has reached a final agreement with the veteran Algerian winger to join the capital-based club, where he will sign a two-year contract after concluding his stint with Al-Ahli.
Mahrez played for Al-Ahli from 2023 until 2026, winning three titles with the Jeddawi club: the AFC Champions League Elite in its last two editions, as well as the Saudi Super Cup.
According to the global platform Transfermarkt, Mahrez featured in 122 matches for Al-Ahli, scoring 37 goals and providing 50 assists across all competitions.
Al-Shabab is currently experiencing a poor run of results after five matches, having drawn three games and lost two against Al-Qadsiah and Al-Hilal.
The "Lions of the Capital" sit in 15th place with three points, as the youthful club seeks its first victory in the upcoming round when they face Al-Kholood next Wednesday evening.
