Football Association: We adhere to the national team's rights after the refereeing errors

The Egyptian Football Association issued, today, an official statement following the conclusion of the national team's journey in the 2026 World Cup, in which it thanked the Egyptian state and the fans for the support received by the "Pharaohs".

The Football Association also affirmed in its statement its adherence to the team's rights following the refereeing controversy witnessed in the tournament's final match.

The Football Association said in its official statement that it extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Egyptian state, led by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, for the great and continuous support the national team has received since the board assumed responsibility for managing Egyptian football, alongside the various forms of support and care provided by state institutions, in recognition of the importance of sports and its role in elevating Egypt's name in international forums.

The statement added that the Association values the support of Egyptian football fans inside and outside Egypt, as well as the Arab and African fans who backed the team throughout its journey in the tournament, also extending greetings to the technical, administrative, and medical staff and the players, after the performance they delivered and their honorable appearance that reflected the spirit and determination of Egyptian football.

The Association clarified in its statement that it expresses its deep dissatisfaction with the refereeing performance in the final match led by the French referee, and with some decisions related to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, which raised many questions, especially in light of the criticisms directed at this performance by media outlets and sports analysts.

The Football Association stressed its full adherence to the national team's rights, affirming its commitment to taking all measures permitted by the regulations to preserve justice and the integrity of the competition.

The Association concluded its statement by affirming that the team's exit from the tournament does not diminish what the players achieved, as they demonstrated commitment and a fighting spirit that earned everyone's respect, noting that the participation represents an important step in the project to develop Egyptian football, with continued work in the coming phase, in cooperation with state institutions, to expand the base of participation, discover talents, and build new generations capable of representing Egypt in various continental and international forums.
